User highlight: active region appearing on the Sun’s limb

YouTube and user galaxy387 shared this movie of an active region appearing on the limb of the Sun.

It’s a great example of the complex evolution that an active can undergo in a relatively short amount of time. Studying the evolution of active region loops on the limb cuts right through the loops themselves so you don’t see any of the disk emission along your line of sight, and so removes a potential source of confusion.

Have just found your site; fabulous.
Would you please insert a earth to scale in all your movies. I think it would help all of us to realize how small our home really is.

    Thanks for a great site.

      Hi Paul,

Glad you enjoy the site. Having a scaled image of the Earth is a good idea, and something that we have thought about before. I’ll see if we can make that an option sometime over the next few months 🙂
